Puzzles are a great way to spend a rainy afternoon, and our 2-sided puzzle has something for just about everyone.

Side one is a picture of our “Color with Character” crayons laid out as a rainbow of color. The picture shows the names of the 24 colors (like Grateful Green, Honest Orange and Compassionate Cardinal), as well as the definitions of the virtues that are written on the crayon wrappers. This makes it a fun way to teach kids the names of important virtues. It can be a subtle conversation starter for children’s classes. Here’s an idea: Have your kids put together the puzzle, then when they are done, pull out the box of crayons. “Wait a minute! How did you do that?”

Because the crayons are arranged by color, and they all face the same direction, the crayon side should be fairly easy for elementary school aged kids to do in an afternoon. Older kids can do it on their own. Younger kids might need just a little adult guidance. (Small pieces make this unsuitable for kids under 3 years old.) I’ve only been able to test it on my own family. Two adults and one teen chose not to sort by color before starting or use the poster as a guide, and still finished in half an hour. So finishing in an afternoon should not be hard for most people.

Side two is our popular “To every human being must ye be infinitely kind” design painted by Jeannie Hunt. It is also used on greeting cards, T-shirts, coffee mugs, flags and tote bags. This side is a little harder, so it is good for older kids and adults. The finished picture is a real work of art.

Because the two sides are so very different, it should not be difficult to turn each piece to the side you are working on.

In our family, we put out puzzles during family gatherings, and people can stop and add a few pieces off and on throughout the day or weekend. This is especially easy with the crayon side, as people can sort through and work on one color range at a time. This allows multiple people to work at the same time without getting in each other’s way.

The puzzle uses all of the basic puzzle shapes, rather than being limited to the classic “two in, two out” pattern. This makes it easier to put together, but also helps develop visual discernment, as each shape is unique.  Here’s a hint: If you want to make the “Kindness” side faster to put together, sort the BACKSIDE by color range (blue, green, yellow, red, pink, & neutrals) then flip them all over and assemble it in six sections.

This is a high-quality puzzle, with very little “puzzle dust.” The pieces hold together as you move them in sections. In fact, it withstands the “pick it up by the edge” test.  That’s better than most of the puzzles that I do for fun. The colors are bright and vibrant, the the pieces are 1.8mm thick.
