Our Updated Website is Live

This is it. We’ve been planning and working on this renovation for more than a year. Monday very early we began rolling out the change. For the rest of this week, we’ll be looking for broken links, proofreading and trying to find any errors. If you notice anything that needs doing, don’t hesitate to let us know. We want to serve you as best we can so don’t hesitate to add something to the bottom of our to-do list.

This week was difficult for a lot of women who were triggered into remembering – and perhaps reliving – various forms of trauma and abuse.

This week was difficult for a lot of women who were triggered into remembering – and perhaps reliving – various forms of trauma and abuse.   That’s why this week I am reminding you of a number of books that I and others have written to help people deal with tests and trauma of all kinds. Whether you are dealing with trauma, or the compulsive behaviors that often manifest themselves as a result of trauma (forgotten and remembered) the books above will be helpful. You can read reviews at our site or on Amazon to see if they might be what you …

Baha’i Convention – Last Chance to Order

Yes, Unit Conventions are for electing delegates… but for isolated believers and Baha’is from smaller communities, they are also a time to re-establish their Baha’i Identity. Baha’i Calendars, books, gifts, name tags and jewelry are an important part of that process. That makes NOW the perfect time to stock up on some of the special things that help Baha’is feel that they are part of something special. Here are some ideas: Remember, we do NOT sell on consignment. Don’t order more than you expect to sell. We have a 10% restocking fee and you will pay postage both ways, so …

World Citizenship – Now More Than Ever

As the world grows darker, we must shine brighter.  What does it look like to promote world citizenship in the age of renewed nationalism and “America First”? One first step is to be supportive of immigrants. One way to do that is to support the work of the Tahirih Justice Center with a financial contribution. You can click the link, or, if you are on Facebook, you can contribute to my birthday fundraiser. Another way is to educate yourself about immigration issues and know how to respond accurately and respectfully to the anti-immigrant talking points that you hear or see …

Our 2019-2020 2-year wall calendars are ready!

Our 2019-2020 2-year wall calendars are ready! We’ve been making these two-year calendars for several years now. We’ve fine-tuned their design to give you the very best in beauty and utility. The 2019 calendar celebrates the 25th anniversary of the publication of our pocket edition of The Hidden Words by reproducing a larger section of the artwork that the cover was drawn from. It also includes the beginning of the first Hidden Word. The 2020 calendar celebrates the 25th anniversary of the publication of our best-selling Gift of Prayers prayer book. Again, it uses a larger section of the full painting, which …

Thank you for your Excellent Service

It has become common to thank those in the armed forces for their service to their country. They are doing something many of us would not want to do and it shows that we respect their sacrifice and willingness to more than many others are doing. I feel that same appreciation every time I see someone go that extra mile for another. I feel this appreciation in even the most ordinary circumstances. For example, there is that one waitress in the crowded restaurant who seems to care about doing a good job more than they do about their sore feet. …

Welcome to the World

Special Ideas is located 20 minutes south of Bloomington, Indiana on a farm. The picture above shows what the weather is like this morning and it the picture of the first lamb born this spring. Spring is coming. The days are longer. The salamanders have broken hibernation. The geese are felling a little amorous and loud. For many of us, last year was difficult. Winter held some sad moments and dark night. As the sun comes out on this very cold day, lets remember that spring is nearly here and this is a time for renewal and wonder at …

Preparing to raise a new curtain

Welcome or welcome back readers. In the spring when we are so busy, I think back on January as a blissfully relaxed. The truth is that it could be. Sales are slow this time of year and road conditions often require more time spent at home. But this is January and we are very busy preparing for a great new year. We are working on new products, collating materials and filling shelves as well and getting current orders out. Just this week the new virtue placemats have arrived and they are much more beautiful than they looked on paper. This …
