Agate is a variety of fine grained, bright quartz. Agate is the mystical birthstone for September, the zodiac sign of the Gemini, and the gemstone for the 12th and 14th years of marriage. It is a stone that has been carved and used for decoration since prehistoric times. In many legends, agates are a stone that enhances memory, concentration, and perception. The beads  are 6mm round which makes the strand about 22-23″ inches in circumference. This allows them to double as a necklace for people who wear a small hat size.
