Over 100 years ago, Abdu’l-Baha said, “… the greatest need in the world today is international peace.”
Over 35 years ago, the Universal House of Justice laid out the principles needed to achieve that peace. The Promise of World Peace is a concise and comprehensive outline of how to apply the spiritual teachings of Baha’u’llah to the social needs of today. Even though it is 35 years old, the ideas it presents are just as relevant now as they were before the turn of the century.
As wonderful as this document is, it is written at a level that is out of reach for many average Americans. That is why our edition includes a running paragraph-by-paragraph summary in simple English in the margins. This allows both the educated and uneducated to skim the entire document in a matter of minutes, and then dig down deeper into the paragraphs that interest them the most.
For example, the phrase, “…that many have succumbed to the view that such behavior is intrinsic to human nature and therefore ineradicable…” is presented in the margins as “There is so much violence in the world that many people believe that it is an unchangeable part of human nature, when it is not.”
This edition also includes our popular “Nine Ways to Work for Peace” flier on the back cover. It has been scanned and shared on FaceBook hundreds of times.
We have printed this edition four times, and each time we think that interest in it has died down. But people keep calling us, desperate for copies they can give away. Now that the presentation edition from the Publishing Trust is out of print, this is the only edition designed to be given away left in print. I only made 2,000 this time, so I can’t predict how long they will last.
