One of the challenges of teaching the Baha’i Faith is the fact that in the last 50 years, many other religions have adopted a number of our social and spiritual principles. The Pope has said that Heaven and Hell are spiritual states, not places. Many religions talk about unity and racial harmony. Even the idea that there is truth in all religions is no longer unusual. So what sets the Baha’i Faith apart, other than a new Prophet and an Administrative Order (aspects that may turn off more people than they attract)?
One answer is the concept of Progressive Revelation. Different religions don’t just coexist, they are consecutive and coherent. They aren’t just spokes on a wheel leading to the same God, they are rungs on a ladder that progress upwards.
We have several campaigns that refer to Progressive Revelation and the Oneness of Religion, including Golden Rule materials, “One Loving Creator, One Unfolding Religion, One Human Family,” and “One Light-Many Lamps,” but none of them clearly express the coherent, interconnected nature of all religions.
This new presentation of the idea leaves no room for doubt as to the unfolding interconnected relationship between religions. It identifies the Baha’i Faith, not just as the last symbol in a series, but as the current name for the entire unfolding religion. It is, after all, the “Changeless faith of God, eternal in the past, eternal in the future.” By using the word “revelation” it avoids another word that can turn people away. Religion is the structure, which can be warped and manipulated by humans, but Revelation is the pure guidance given to us by the Prophets and is universal and eternal.
This Table Skirt/Banner is actually a single piece of polyester fabric with a 36×60″ (3×5′) rectangle of the design printed on it, with a white border around the edge. Sixty inches is the same width of our “One Light Many Lamps” table skirt, which coordinates well with this one. It is sized to show the entire design when hung from the edge of a 28″ tall table that is at least 5′ long, without dragging on the ground.
I highly recommend ironing the fabric so it looks nice on the table. Then it can be used exactly as it is (see picture) or you can hem it to remove the extra white fabric edge in one of several ways:
Simply fold the excess back and tape it in place.
If you don’t plan on using it very often, you can just cut the excess off. It will not fray very much.
You can run a 1/4″ ribbon of clear glue along the back at the edge of the design, then cut it with scissors when it dries.
You can iron one-sided fusion tape on the back and then trim.
You can surge or zig-zag sew the edge.
You can do a full sewn hem.
It all depends on how long you want it to last, and what your crafting skill level is.
The extra fabric at the top is nice because it can keep it from sliding off the table. You can tape it in place, or lay a table cloth across it before adding pamphlets and give-aways. (see picture)
You can also fold the top over to make a pocket hem to slide a dowel rod through and carry it as a banner in a parade.
This design coordinates with almost all of our other interfaith materials. Click here to see them all.
